Everything You Need to Know
Essential travel information to help you plan the perfect Thailand trip. From visas to local customs — we've got you covered.
Plan Your TripIndian passport holders can obtain a Visa on Arrival (VoA) at major Thai airports for stays up to 30 days. You'll need a passport valid for at least 6 months, a recent passport-size photo, proof of accommodation, and a return flight ticket. The VoA fee is approximately 2,000 THB (₹4,700). We handle the documentation checklist so you're fully prepared on arrival.
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok is the main international gateway, with direct flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bangalore. Flight time is approximately 4–5 hours. Airlines like Thai Airways, Air India, IndiGo, and Thai AirAsia operate frequent services. Phuket International Airport (HKT) also receives direct flights from select Indian cities.
The ideal time to visit Thailand is November through March, when the weather is cool and dry (25–30°C) — perfect for beaches and sightseeing. December–January is peak season with pleasant weather and festive celebrations. The monsoon season (June–October) brings heavy showers but also lush landscapes and fewer crowds. April–May is the hottest period (35°C+) but coincides with the lively Songkran water festival.
Thailand is generally safe for tourists, with well-developed tourist infrastructure. No mandatory vaccinations are required for Indian travelers, though Hepatitis A and Typhoid shots are recommended. Drink bottled water and eat from busy street stalls for the freshest food. Healthcare in Bangkok is world-class. We strongly recommend travel insurance. Emergency numbers: Tourist Police 1155, Ambulance 1669, Police 191.
The currency is the Thai Baht (THB). 1 THB ≈ ₹2.3–2.5. Credit and debit cards are accepted at hotels, malls, and restaurants, but cash is essential for street markets, tuk-tuks, and smaller shops. ATMs are widely available and accept international cards (with a 220 THB fee per withdrawal). Currency exchange booths in Bangkok offer competitive rates — SuperRich is a trusted option.
Thai culture is deeply respectful — always remove shoes before entering temples and homes. Dress modestly at religious sites (cover shoulders and knees). The Thai monarchy is highly revered; never disrespect images of the King. The traditional greeting is the "wai" (palms together with a slight bow). Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory — 20–50 THB at restaurants is common. Bargaining is expected at markets but not in malls or 7-Elevens.
