Switzerland

Alpine peaks and storybook villages. Expensive and worth it. The rail network means you never need a car, and the views from the train windows are genuinely half the holiday.

About Switzerland

Why go to Switzerland

A Swiss Travel Pass covers trains, buses, lake boats and most museums, and it pays for itself inside three days. Buy it before you fly.

Seven nights lets you see the Bernese Oberland and the Matterhorn without living on a timetable. Base yourself in two or three places rather than moving every night.

June and September are the best months: the high passes are open, the meadows are in flower or turning, and the July and August crowds are absent.

Practical info

Everything you need to know

Visas, flights, weather, money and the local rules that catch people out. If something is not covered, call and ask.

Plan your trip

Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so a Schengen visa is required. Allow six to eight weeks in peak season: the bottleneck is appointment availability in Bengaluru rather than the decision itself. We prepare and file the full application.

There are no direct flights from Bengaluru. Routings connect through Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Frankfurt into Zurich or Geneva, with total travel time around eleven to thirteen hours.

June to September for hiking, green valleys and open mountain passes. December to March for snow and skiing. April, May and November are the quiet shoulder months when many mountain lifts close for maintenance.

Extremely safe with world-class healthcare, though treatment is expensive without insurance, which Schengen visas require anyway. Mountain weather changes fast, so carry layers even in July.

The Swiss Franc runs around 95 to 100 rupees. Cards work everywhere. Switzerland is not in the EU and does not use the Euro, though some border shops accept it at poor rates.

Punctuality is taken seriously, particularly with trains, which leave exactly on time. Quiet hours are observed in residential areas on Sundays. Tipping is not expected as service is included.
